I’d Rather Be On The Beach

I’m currently writing this on a sun lounger out the back of a cabin in Zandvoort, Netherlands.

The sky is blue, it's 22 degrees and birds are chirping in the trees around me.

I don’t say this to rub it in or to gloat. I say it because I COULD be down on the beach instead. It's a 10-minute walk from here and it's how I wanted to spend my evening.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to head down there in a little bit, but first I’ve got work to do.

One of the biggest things I’ve realised over the last 9 months of being on the road for work is that if you want to make any progress in your side endeavours, you HAVE to be willing to sacrifice the ‘better options’.

It's actually Wednesday evening right now. I normally write these on a Monday morning.

I’ve been putting it off all week and favouring those ‘better options’ but all that has done for me is meant that the hottest evening of the week so far, I now have to sit down and do the work I’ve been putting off instead of going to the beach.

Now that I think about it, this is valid for anything in life.

If you want to get healthy, you have to sacrifice the ‘better options’.

If you want to progress in your career, you have to sacrifice the quick wins in favour of delayed wins.

Delayed gratification is something that's becoming more and more prominent as a required skill in my mind.

Quick update about what I’ve been up to before I wrap this up:

I’ve been in the Netherlands since last Saturday. The week before was spent equal parts relaxing during the break and working on content.

I finally got my Sony back from the repair shop 🎉

This week I’ve been into Amsterdam, run the Zandvoort Circuit and worked a hell of a lot. The rest of the week is looking the same.

Anyway, I’m going to get these other bits done and get myself to that beach before the sun sets.

Peace 🌅
