i fucked up.
At the start of August, I set myself the challenge of a 90-day content accountability system. 🗓️
Every single day for 90 days I had a set of actions to be completed for my content creation. 📱
These include things like posting twice a day on Instagram or doing one of these weekly newsletters.
And this was going great, I was hitting the targets every day and seeing a steady but consistent rise on my socials. 📈
Until this week.
On Sunday I went out after work, got drunk and forgot to do x2 of the actions on this system. 🤦♂️
I broke the streak of accountability.
Now the fact I broke this isn’t the point of this newsletter, it's merely the context.
The point of this newsletter is how I reacted to breaking the streak and letting myself down.
Now you may be reading this thinking I’m being really overdramatic and I wouldn’t blame you, in fact, I would agree.
This is a really overdramatic way to look at it. But that's the point for me.
I’ve got big goals. Big goals require big actions. Big actions require discipline.
So how did I react to breaking it? 😶
I gave myself some shit for a few minutes, took and breath and said ‘it is what it is’
And then I uploaded the first posts for that day. The system continues. One hiccup, one bump in the road, one fuck up doesn’t knock us off the path. 🫡
I acknowledged that it went wrong, and I got myself back on track. If I didn’t I would’ve gone on to fuck up a second day. Then a third. Then a fourth. And next thing you know, the 90-day challenge would’ve become a thing ‘I tried and failed’.
Every mistake is a lesson. I learnt from this that I need to be prepared in advance for situations like this.
I could’ve scheduled the posts instead. I could’ve made sure I took myself aside for 5 minutes to upload. I could’ve uploaded earlier in the day. 🤔
There's a lot of ways I could’ve done it differently, and those ways are now lessons and weapons in my arsenal for next time.
